The Internet has equipped us with knowledge and information, which we can use to improve our lives.In today’s fast track life, where people are very busy and cannot get enough time for socialization, social networking sites, online forums, and communities have become a common platform for people to connect with each other. People have made or joined communities as per their profession, interest, concern, etc. 

An online or virtual community is a group of people who interact with each other through the internet. These forums work as an information center, where people share knowledge, participate in discussions, give and take advice. Online communities also organize online/offline events on a particular subject or theme.

Many companies use online community for marketing and promotions. It is also 
used to create awareness; even government bodies and NGO use this tool to 
spread awareness. Online groups are an essential part of the lives of People living in western countries like Europe and America. Online participate has risen in India. In last few years, it has seen a tremendous increase in internet usages. After china and US, India has become the largest internet user in the world.

As a result of increased online participation, we have become more aware and 
self-conscious. There are many health-related groups and institutions, promoting best health practices and preventive measures to avoid diseases. Online health research comes in top 3 online activities in the world. Millions of people visit health related sites such as CNN Health, WebMD, Familydoctor.org, etc. 

People rely on the community-based site for health information. Mayo Clinic, AIDS Portal, CFVoice are some of the most popular health community sites.  
World Health Organization (WHO) is an international institution, working on 
health related issues. It celebrates 7th April as World Health Day every year with a particular theme. It has declared food safety the theme of this year. 

Food contamination causes millions of death every year. In India as per Integrated Disease Surveillance Program, food contamination has caused an outbreak of 306 diseases in 2014.  So food safety is a very serious issue. With the slogan of “From Farm to plate, make food more safe” World Health organization will take on the challenges and opportunities of food safety and create awareness among people of different countries.

As Soon as World health Organization has chosen Food Safety as a theme, People have started writing about it on social media sites, blogs, forums, groups, and community. This buzz has generated awareness on food safety and health.
