Medical Apps

Many times, especially in odd hours, doctors and medical facilities may not be readily available to you or you can not consult them with a physical visit, what would you do in those situations? A medical app in your Smartphone can resolve such problems.
Mobile is no longer a device just to make calls and send messages. It has revolutionized every business and industry, including Healthcare.

There are numbers of medical apps available which are useful for Physicians and patients equally. They provide valuable information on doctors, hospitals and diseases. Patients can access and update their Electronic Health Records and Doctors can view them after obtaining approval from the patient.

These apps are a great help for Doctors in medical decision-making and training & education. With health apps, patients can consult doctors, book appointment; view their treatment history, medical records, and much more. It saves time, increases efficiency and reduces the cost of treatment. A medical app enhances the communication and relation between Doctors and patients.

As per Manhattan Research survey June 2012, 87% Doctors use Smartphone or tablet at their workplace. Plano conducted a survey on 1,000 medical apps users and 500 Healthcare professionals in the US and it found that 86% of professionals think that an app helps them in a better understanding of patient’s medical condition.96% of app users believe that health apps have improved their quality of life.

Though many hospitals help patients with their mobile apps yet only 35% healthcare providers offer an app. A medical app is beneficial for both hospital and patients. According to Global Data mobile health technology market will exceed $8 billion by 2018.

Medical apps connect patients directly to doctors and specialists through call or chatting. Though it is not a complete replacement of the traditional health care system, yet it is very useful in emergency situations & odd hours when something happens all of a sudden and you have no help around. On the basis of symptoms, a doctor can prescribe medicine online, suggest a test, etc.

People use medical apps to improve their health, but few important questions are what the authenticity of apps is? How safe are they to use? Information provided in an app may be outdated, ambiguous and evidenceless which can harm a person.

An app should be developed using authentic sources and expertise of the industry and it should be updated with latest issues, research, and findings. Patients should use only authoritative health apps. Medical organizations such as World Health organization (WHO) create events and campaigns every now and then to keep people informed on health issues and their solutions. Patients can download PDF, subscribe to its newsletters to themselves updated on the latest development in healthcare.
